The
Agfa ePhoto 1280 is the precursor of the ePhoto
1680 that was reviewed in megapixel.net's first issue in
October of 1998. The body design is the same, but in a near-black colour.
The lens section is made so that it can rotate over 270° with respect
to the LCD screen
section. No viewfinder
is provided. The flash is built-in with the lens section, so as to always
be pointing in the same direction as the lens.
Since
the ePhoto 1280 has no optical viewfinder, the LCD screen
is always in use this
takes a toll on the batteries. Digital cameras are generally
heavy power consumers, and we regret that this design,
similar to the ePhoto 1680 and others, tends to limit
the usage of the camera.
EasyPilot
control (small light grey wheel on the upper right
side of the image at right), a kind of cross between
a trackball and a mouse button. One push of the EasyPilot
button brings up the camera's menus; rotating it allows
cursor movement through the menus. The system is simple
to use, and generally works well.
