Setup is the second part
of the Pro1's menu, whatever the capture mode, and is also
common to the Playback mode, because the Setup menu contains
settings that impact the behaviour of the camera, whatever
the mode:
Mute: On or Off, turns off all camera sounds.
Volume: allows adjusting the volume over 5 increments
for:
the Start-up sound,
the Operation sound,
the Self-timer sound,
the Shutter sound,
and the Playback volume.
LCD Brightness: to adjust the brightness of the
LCD monitor, Normal or Bright.
Date/Time: to set the Pro1's internal clock/calendar.
Format: formats the memory card or the Microdrive,
and displays the card/drive's capacity.
File Number Reset: decides whether file numbering
restarts at 1 when a new or formatted card is used, or continues
being incremented.
Auto Rotate: On or Off. When On the camera uses
a sensor to keep track of its orientation while a photo is
taken, and accordingly rotates the image upon playback.
Distance Unit: sets the units to be used for the
Manual Focus mode (ft/in. or m/cm).
Language: sets the language for the interface, English,
French, German, Danish, Dutch, Finish, Italian, Norwegian,
Swedish, Spanish, Chinese or Japanese.
Video System: NTSC or PAL.
The PowerShot Pro1's User Guide is
provided as a small but thick printed manual. Information is
generally clear and well-organized, making it fairly easy to
get acquainted with the camera, and get the most out of it in
a reasonable time.
Software
Two CD-ROMs are included with the
Canon Pro 1. The first disc is Canon's Digital Camera Solution version
17.1.
Canon's Digital Camera Solution
disc is a group of utilities for the Pro1 that are part of ZoomBrowser
EX 4.6.
ZoomBrowser acts as the gateway to download images from the camera or copy
them from a memory card in a reader, or simply present thumbnails of photos
on a hard disk. Using ZoomBrowser, RAW images can be opened, and their
settings for white balance, colour, brightness, contrast, sharpness, and
saturation changed if desired. The adjusted image can then be saved in
either TIFF or JPEG format.
In addition, ZoomBrowser also serves
as access to the powerful PhotoStitch 3.1, a program that
assembles a series of images captured with the Pro1's Stitch
Assist mode into large panoramic images.
Likewise, Remote Capture which provides
complete control over the camera when it is connected to a computer,
is also launched from ZoomBrowser. Using Remote Capture the Pro1
can be operated from a Windows computer and image size, quality,
zoom position, flash, white balance, exposure compensation, macro
etc. can be controlled along with the shooting mode, aperture
and shutter speed.
ZoomBrowser can also be used for printing. Index sheets can be printed,
and complex print layouts are available with the use of templates onto
which selected images can be placed for printing at a variety of sizes.
The second disc included with the Pro1 is ArcSoft's Camera Suite 2.1.
Camera Suite is an image editing program that includes two elements: PhotoStudio
5.5, designed to edit still images; and VideoImpressions 2,
designed to edit video clips recorded with a digital camera; and both programs
are available for Microsoft Windows and Macintosh computers.
