Canon's
3.3 megapixel consumer digital camera, the PowerShot S20, is now
on store shelves. S10, only
the finish has changed: from silver to light gold, or champagne colour.
It is still well-crafted, metal, and the overwhelming impression is of
an expensive, jewellery-like subcompact camera.
An all metal Mode
dial, with a toothed edge is fitted on the top, the edge protruding
slightly in the upper right back so as to be easily rotated by the thumb.
The Mode Dial provides six position besides OFF:
A
red camera symbol represents the full auto mode,
Also
in red, a smaller camera symbol with an "M" next
to it, is the manual mode,
Image
serves to access the program modes,
Stitch-assist,
represented by two overlapping frames, is to create panoramas,
The
blue symbol is for playback,
And
a 2 headed arrow is to connect the camera to a computer via either
the USB, or the serial port.
A
four-direction control, called the Omni Selector, is mounted on
a raised area of the upper right back, near the Mode Dial, and is used
to navigate the camera's menus.
The Omni Selector also serves to adjust the camera's zoom. Zooming in
is done by pressing the top, while pressing the lower portion zooms out.
The switch is very responsive, and provides a good tactile feedback.
