PLEASE NOTE:

Here are a few images that accurately reflect the abilities of any given camera model. The images are altered only in terms of size and sharpness after reduction and by the JPEG compression used. Unless otherwise mentioned, assume that any marbling or artifacts visible in the images are due to the compression required to display them here. We feel however, that they still faithfully represent the results we experienced.

STILL LIFE PHOTO

This subject is photographed in a room that has a mix of fluorescent and incandescent light, but which is not brightly lit. The camera's flash is used to add fill light. The backdrop is 1.95 m (6.5 ft) from the camera.

With some ambient light and the help of its flash, the SD10 captures a very well-lit image.

The image sharpness is excellent, and even the faded price of the old photos paper (7.90) written in pencil is clearly legible.

Format: Super Fine Aperture: f 2.8

MACRO PHOTO

Aperture: f2.8, shutter speed: 1/3 sec, 50 ISO.
The macro mode of the SD10 is engaged in the Function menu, as one of the shooting mode options. The macro mode allows the lens to focus on a subject from 3 cm to 10 cm (1.2 in to 3.9 in.)

At its closest distance to a subject, the SD10's lens captures a field of view, horizontally, of approximately 2.5 cm (0.975 in.). The best results are obtained with brightly lit subjects, and at 50 ISO with the camera stabilized in some way.

BUILDING PHOTO

This image is our outdoor test. The architecture of the building, in particular the angled girders, immediately show the presence of jaggies. The shadowed entrance can also often reveal the quality of the exposure.

The SD10 captures a well-exposed and sharp image of the building. However, an aberration is also noticeable with this subject where the shadowed underside of the building's canopy is against the white sky.

NIGHT PHOTO

As this camera is capable of long exposures, a photo taken at night is included.

Aperture: f2.8, shutter speed: 4sec., 50 ISO.
The SD10 is able to capture exposures lasting up to 15 seconds in the long shutter mode.

The photo at left, and the large section cropped from the original image further down, are of the 400 ISO exposure.

The camera automatically uses its biggest aperture, f2.8, so with a subject that is reasonably well-lit, such as this one, a 4 second exposure is sufficient to capture a bright, sharp image.
Noise reduction is automatically applied to exposures longer than 1.3 seconds. As usual, the noise reduction process doubles the exposure time, capturing a second frame of the same duration as the first exposure to detect the background noise, then using that information to delete it from the first exposure.

As can be seen below, the process is very effective.
