The FinePix A340 has a refreshed
Setup menu while the rest of its interface is much like other
recent Fujifilm cameras. The Setup menu is presented over 4
screens, each reached via a tab at the top of the screen:
Image Display: On or Off. Decides whether or not
the photo will be shown on the screen for about 2 seconds
immediately after capture.
Power Save: Off, 2 or 5 minutes. Turns off the camera
automatically after the selected time has elapsed.
Format: format the xD card.
Beep: Low, High, Off. Sets the volume of the tones
produced by the camera when its controls are used.
Date/Time: sets the date and time on the A340.
Time Difference: allows setting the time difference
between "home time" and a destination.
LCD: On or Off. Decides whether or not the LCD screen
will automatically come on when the camera is turned on.
Frame No.: Cont. or Renew. Decides whether frames
are numbered consecutively or start again at 1 when the memory
card is erased or changed.
USB Mode: presents the 3 available USB protocols
as icons. An icon of an xD card represents Mass
Storage which has the card recognized as a hard disk;
a printer icon represents PictBridge, a protocol
that lets the camera control a PictBridge compliant printer
directly; and Web Cam, makes it possible to use the
A340 as a web camera.
Language: sets the language used by the interface
of the camera (English, French, German, Spanish).
Video System: sets the signal for the video output,
NTSC or PAL.
Discharge: OK starts discharging Ni-MH batteries,
allowing them to be recharged fully and extending their life.
Reset All: Resets the camera to the factory defaults.
A printed manual is included
with the A340. The manual is clear and concise and covers all
aspects of the A340.
Explanations are also given on the installation of the software included
with the camera on both Microsoft Windows and Macintosh computers.
Software
A single CD-ROM is included with
the FinePix A340 containing FinePix Viewer AX version
4.2a for Windows and Mac (OS X), and Pixela's ImageMixer VCD2
for FinePix.
The software install involves 2 re-boots on a Windows XP machine, and the
CD must be left in the drive until after the first reboot as that part
of the process installs the Web cam drivers.
FinePix Viewer is a simple
utility to view images which can display the shooting data for
each photo. Photos can be displayed as thumbnails at any of three
different sizes, or can be presented in a large view with the
others in the directory in a strip below. Images can be used
to adjust Brightness, Saturation, Hue Contrast and Sharpness;
or turned into sepia or black and white photos.
Printing is also possible, as are a variety of page layouts.
ImageMixer VCD2 a new version of the software.
The program can be used to create Video CDs, DVD Video, CD Albums
or DVD Albums. While the first versions of the software supported
a limited number of CD and DVD burners, this version is can use
a large variety of different burners.
