The E510's interface is consistent with other recent FinePix
cameras, making use of a combination of icons, text, and coloured
backgrounds. Overall, the interface is simple to understand and
very legible. Options related to the image quality and size are
accessed quickly with the button,
while all others are organized in the menu called up with the button.
Access to the Setup menu is offered in all capture modes
and in the Playback mode:

image will be shown on the display while it is being saved.
Power Save: sets the delay before the camera automatically
turns off (2 or 5 minutes).

deletes all images including those marked as "Protected").

between the current time and date and another location which
can then be used when traveling.

the file name of each new photo by 1; and Renew which
restarts numbering files from 1.

which makes them last longer.

A thin printed manual, also applicable to the FinePix E500, is
included with the FinePix E510. The manual is well organized
and usually provides clear explanations of the camera's functions,
albeit in what could be termed a somewhat minimalist fashion.
Software
Note: The software offered may vary depending upon the country
of purchase.
Fujifilm includes a single CD-ROM
with the E510. Called Software for FinePix (version 4.2b
for Windows and Macintosh), the disc provides FinePix Viewer (v4.2
for Windows and 3.3 for Macintosh), the Mass Storage and Webcam USB drivers,
and the utility RAW File Converter LE (v1.1 for Windows
and Mac) — although the E510 does not offer a RAW image
format — in addition to Pixela's ImageMixer VCD2 for
FinePix.
FinePix Viewer's function is to see photos: on the
camera while it is connected to the computer, or images in
a memory card placed in a reader, or even photo on a hard disk.
Photos are presented as thumbnails (an index page), or as a
filmstrip with the current image shown at a larger scale above
the strip.
FinePix Viewer can also be used to call up another program to edit images.
FinePix Viewer itself can be used to make minor adjustments
to photos, and explanations for each adjustment is provided
on the left of the screen. Brightness, saturation, hue and
contrast can be controlled, and the program provides a before
and after preview of how the adjustment will affect the image.
In addition, photos can be converted to black and white or sepia, and
their sharpness can be adjusted.
FinePix Viewer also serves to
access Pixela's ImageMixer VCD2. ImageMixer is used to
create complex photo albums and slide shows which can be burned
onto CDs or DVDs, as long as the burner is one of those it supports.
Note that not all DVD players are compatible with these discs.
