Here are a few images that accurately reflect the abilities
of any given camera model. The images are altered only in
terms of size and sharpness after reduction and by the JPEG
compression used. Unless otherwise mentioned, assume that
any marbling or artifacts visible in the images are due to
the compression required to display them here. We feel however,
that they still faithfully represent the results we experienced.

This scene was photographed indoors with
a flash in a room with subdued natural lighting.
This photo was taken with the camera's zoom at its widest setting. Exposure
is even and bright. Colors are vivid, but the red cloth in the foreground
has a pinkish hue and isn't as crimson as it should be. The red in the
box in the background, though, is faithful to the scene, indicating that
the cloth in the foreground was slightly washed out by the flash. Depth
of field is very good. Trees outside the window were accurately captured.
Viewed at 100 percent in a photo editor, objects and text were sharply
rendered and there was a minimum of noise (photo at right) in the image.

This shot tests the camera and zoom lens
at full telephoto on the still life scene under the same lighting and
metering conditions.
The exposure for this shot is appropriate. Focusing was very difficult--even
with image stabilization enabled--and several test shots had to be made
before a clear image could be captured. Color in the photo reflects what
is seen with the human eye. At 100 percent in a photo editor, details
were soft and noise (photo at right) was noticeable but not overpowering.

This is macro test shot. The test object is about 4.5 inches wide by 3.5
inches high. Shot taken at about 12 inches from subject.
This macro shot is evenly exposed and has good color fidelity. Detail
is soft. At 100 percent in a photo editing program, noise is evident (photo
at right) and object is very soft.

This shot was captured in Super Macro mode
without a flash. Subject is about one inch from the lens.
Exposure remains good but sharpness drops off. Color remains faithful
to what's seen with the human eye. At 100 percent in a photo editor, detail
becomes muddy and object obscure.

This is an outdoor test shot taken in Auto mode.
The house has lots of fine detail in the shingles and slate roof, as well
as the architectural design of the doorway.
Taken with the camera's zoom at its widest setting, the building and
its surroundings are properly exposed. Colors are faithful to what's seen
by the human eye. Detail and sharpness are excellent. At 100 percent in
a photo editor, there is no discernable noise in the image and objects
remain sharp.

Without moving from the spot that the building
photo was taken, the image of the entrance to the house was captured with
the zoom extended to its maximum focal length.
This telephoto shot was slightly underexposed. Colors were muted, but
the detail is still good. At 100 percent in a photo editor, condensation
inside the lamp over the doorway is nicely detailed. Noise can be detected
in the dark areas under the entrance roof (photo at right), as well as
where the shadows extend over the top of the latticed window.
