The interface system of the S7000 is composed of 3 separate
areas that allow the user to modify settings for the S7000: the Photo
Mode menu, accessed with the button;
the Main menu, be it in the Recording or Playback mode;
and the Setup menu which is accessed when the camera is
set to recording mode and when the Mode Dial is turned
to the SET position:
Image Display: determines whether or not the photographed
image is displayed immediately post-capture. Three options
are offered, On; Off; Preview. On displays
the image for approximately 2 seconds; Off simply
saves images without displaying them; and Preview displays
the image and lets the user decide whether or not to save
it.
Media: selects CompactFlash or xD as the primary
storage media to use when both types are loaded in the camera.
Power Save: is a low power setting that automatically
starts after the S7000 has not been used for 2 or 5 minutes.
Format: is to format either of the memory cards.
Beep: sets the volume for the beeps made by the
camera during operation (Off, 1, 2, 3).
Shutter: sets the volume for the shutter sound (Off,
1, 2, 3).
Date/Time: to set the time and date on the S7000.
Adapter: offers 2 settings, Yes or No.
The Adapter setting lets the camera know when an optional
lens adapter is used, or a filter.
Frame No.: decides whether frames are numbered continuously,
or restart at one each time a new card is used or a card
is erased/formatted.
CCD-RAW: On or Off. When On images are recorded
as RAW, and the ISO settings are limited to 200 or 400 ISO.
Language: sets the interface language (Japanese,
English, French, German, Spanish, Chinese).
Video System: sets the camera output to NTSC or PAL.
USB Mode: configures the USB connection to be either DSC,
which lets the camera appear as a mass storage device to
the operating system of a computer; or PC CAM, which
allows a live feed from the camera to the OS. As with other
recent FujiFilm cameras, the S7000 can be used for video
conferencing, or record a video feed from the camera using
the supplied software*.
Discharge: gradually discharges Ni-MH batteries
to improve their longevity.
Reset All: returns the camera to its factory default
with the exception of the date/time, language and video system.

Video Conferencing with FujiFilm cameras requires
a direct connection to the Internet (no routers or
hardware firewall), a Windows environment, and another
Fujifilm camera equipped with the PC CAM option.
These requirements preclude us from testing this
function.
Software
The S7000 reviewed here was supplied
with a single CD-ROM which contains Fujifilm's FinePix Viewer,
a USB driver for both the MAss Storage and PC-CAM modes; RAW
File Converter LE, and Pixela's ImageMixer VCD2 for
FinePix.
FinePix Viewer is the primary
interface for viewing images, or sending them to be converted
from RAW to TIFF format by the conversion software. FinePix Viewer
can display images as thumbnails, or as a "film strip" with
a currently highlighted image displayed above, which allows the
image to be magnified. However, no indication of the percentage
of the magnification is shown, making it somewhat impractical.
FinePix Viewer is able to display
shooting data, and some image editing is possible. Adjustments
can be made to brightness, saturation, hue and contrast. Sharpness
can also be increased or decreased, and the photo can be changed
into sepia or black and white.
