STILL LIFE PHOTO

This scene was photographed indoors in a room lit by natural light. The camera flash is used to add fill light.

This photo is taken at the widest setting of camera's zoom lens. When viewed at 100 percent in an image editor, the picture was very noisy, especially in the dark areas on the left side of the photo. Lettering on the boxes in the background showed signs of the "jaggies." Objects in the picture have very soft edges. Camera did a good job handling difficult exposure conditions. Detail behind the window isn't washed out. Color in the photo is true to the scene.

ZOOM STILL LIFE PHOTO

This shot tests the camera's zoom on the still life scene under the same lighting conditions.

Because of the lighting conditions, the camera could not focus with the zoom at full telephoto on the customary object for this test--the camera on the tripod. This test shot of the camera was taken at about 30 percent of the zoom's maximum magnification. There is some minor noise in the image--but not as much as might be expected at an ISO of 1600. The objects in the photo have soft edges, but no jaggy effects. Color is mostly true, but the red cloth beneath the camera is slightly washed out due to overexposure by the flash.

ALTERNATE ZOOM STILL LIFE PHOTO

Although the customary still life test object couldn't be shot at full telephoto, an alternative object in the test scene could be shot in focus at maximum magnification. There was a minimum of noise in the shot, and the edges of the object in the image were soft. Colors were faithful to the scene.

MACRO PHOTO

These are macro test shots. The test object is about 4.5 inches wide by 3.5 inches high.

The Fujifilm FinePix S8000fd has a macro and super macro mode. The photo on the left was taken in macro mode without a flash. Colors are oversaturated. Detail in the object's latticework was soft. There was minor noise in the overall shot. In super macro mode--photo on the right--oversaturation of color is again present. Detail and noise levels were about the same as in macro mode.

BUILDING PHOTO

This is an outdoor test shot. The house has lots of fine detail in the shingles and slate roof, as well as the architectural design of the doorway.

Elements in the photo are sharp and the colors are true. Displaying the image at 100 percent in a photo editor showed no discernable noise in the picture. Some slight barrel distortion in the lens can be seen in the trees at the right side of the photo.

ZOOM BUILDING PHOTO

Without moving from the spot that the building photo was taken, the image of the entrance to house was captured with the camera's zoom at maximum telephoto. Image stabilization was enabled. In 100 percent view, noise could be detected throughout the photo. Edges of objects in the photo were soft, but there were no signs of blurring that could be attributed to camera shake--even though I could see shaking in the LCD when I took the shot.
