In use the HP 935 does not react
quickly to its controls, and if the menus are accessed often
the batteries become depleted quickly. The menus, called up by
pressing the OK button at the centre of the 4-direction
controller, are generally short and, unlike some of the controls,
react relatively fast. Moreover, they offer an on-screen help
function that many users will find useful. Need help with the
white balance? Four screen pages of helpful information is available
by selecting Help, the last option of each and every menu
item.
The Setup menu is accessible from either the Capture or Playback
menus as the next to last option. The Setup menu is identical in both cases:
Camera Sounds: Off, Low or High. Controls the volume
of the sounds made by the camera while it is being operated.
Date and Time: sets the date and time on the HP
935.
USB: selects the USB protocol. Digital Camera (PTP),
or Disk Drive (Mass Storage).
TV: set the video output of the camera, NTSC or
PAL. (Video output requires the use of the optional HP 8886
Camera Dock).
Language: sets the language for the interface (English,
German, Spanish, French, Italian).
A printed manual accompanies the HP 935. The manual is well-organized
and covers the functions and controls of camera adequately.
Software
A single CD is included with the
HP 935 containing a group of programs commonly referred to as HP
Photo & Imaging Software.
The primary interface for the
user is HP Photo & Imaging, a program that provides
access to all the functions of the software through buttons on
the right side of the interface. Through HP Photo & Imaging
Gallery, photos can be downloaded from the camera; organized;
edited (see below), and rotated. Moreover, photos can
be printed, as can albums; or reduced in size for e-mailing;
or shared over the Internet, or saved to CD as a slide show by
accessing HP's Memories Disc Creator.
HP Memories Disc Creator can
create a personalized photo show with a title page and music;
a complete album of all images to view or browse; an archive
of all images; automatically create print files to print: individual
photos, index sheets, and even a jewel case insert.
"Memories discs" can be viewed on a television with a DVD player that
supports Video CD (VCD) format — also known as Compact Disc Digital Video — and
on a player that is able to read CD-R and CD-RW discs.
The image editing capabilities
of the HP software are accessed with the Image Editor.
Photos can be adjusted for colour and saturation; brightness
and contrast; sharpness; red-eye can be minimized in portraits;
photos can be resized or rotated, and saved as a different image
format; and a title can be added.
