The menu is called up by pressing
the OK button at the centre of the 4-direction control. Both
the Recording and Playback menus have an access to the Setup
menu, and exiting the Setup menu is done by selecting the "Exit
Setup menu" provided at the top of the first screen, or
as the last option of the second screen.
The options contained in the Setup menu concern the basic configuration
of the HP 945:
Camera Sounds: controls the volume of the sounds
made by the HP 945 (High, Low or Off).
Eye Start: controls how the EVF works. When set
to On, the EVF is activated whenever the sensors detect something
nearby. When Off, the Live View button ()
toggles back and forth between the LCD monitor and the EVF.
Focus Assist Light: provides a control over the
focus-assist light (Auto or Off).
LCD Brightness has 2 settings: Indoor (dimmer) or
Outdoor (brighter).
Instant Review: controls the length of time a just
captured image will be displayed (Off, 2, 4, or 6 seconds).
Auto Power Off: decides when (or if) the camera
will automatically power itself off after a period of inactivity.
Options are 3, 6, or 10 minutes, or Never.
conserve power.
Date & Time: serves to set the current date
and time on the HP 945.
USB: determines how the camera is recognized when
connected to a computer. Digital Camera lets the computer
recognize the HP 945 as a digital camera using PTP (Picture
Transfer Protocol). Disk Drive lets the computer recognize
the camera as a Mass Storage Device allowing images
to be copied to another disk.
TV: selects the output signal for the AV Out (NTSC
or PAL).
Language: allows selecting the language of the interface,
English, German, Spanish, French, or Italian.
Remembered Settings selects the settings that will
be recalled when the camera is turned off and back on: Flash;
Focus; Burst; EV Compensation; White Balance; ISO Speed;
AE Metering; Digital Flash; Colour.
Reset Settings: returns the HP 945 to factory settings.
The HP 945's user manual is provided
in PDF format, and is found on the CD-ROM that accompanies the
camera. The manual covers most of the features of the HP 945,
and is clearly better than some of the manuals that used to be
included with HP digital cameras.
Software
Two CDs are included with the HP
945. One disc contains an interactive tour of the camera, including
functional menus and explanations about the camera's capabilities
and image processing.
The other disc contains HP
Photo & Imaging Software, a suite of linked but separate
applications: HP director; HP Photo & Imaging
Gallery; HP Instant Share Setup; and HP Memories
Disc.
HP director can be used to unload images, view and print them, or get help.
To view photos, or edit them, HP Photo & Imaging Gallery is called
up.
HP Photo & Imaging Gallery
presents photos as thumbnails. The thumbnails view allows rotating
images left or right, or printing them. By selecting an image
and clicking on the icon for the Image Editor, images can be
edited for colour and saturation, brightness, sharpness, and
Red-eye. In addition, the images can be rotated, or resized,
and text can be added to them.
The other 2 utilities included on
the HP Photo & Imaging disc are a tool to customize the HP
Instant Share menu, and the other serves to create a photo
CD.
