Our Opinion
Using a colourful and simple interface, the CX7430 limits its menu display to three options per screen and uses large icons to ensure legibility. An icon representing the function or option and its current setting next to it, are further clarified by a text description at the top of the screen. What is missing however, is the ability to loop from the last option of the menu back to the first which would speed up navigation considerably.

The Setup menu is reached as the last option of either the capture or playback menus, providing settings for:
  • Return: returns to the previous menu, either capture or playback.
  • Liveview: decides whether or not the LCD monitor comes on every time the camera is powered on.
  • Sound themes: to choose if the CX7430 produces sounds as it is being used, or when the shutter release is pressed.
  • Date and Time: serves to set the time and date on the CX7430.
  • Video Out: sets the video signal produced by the camera to be either NTSC or PAL.
  • Orientation Sensor: On or Off. Rotates pictures captured vertically when they are played back.
  • Date Stamp: imprints the date directly on the photos.
  • Video Date Display: displays the time and date of a video recording over the image in playback.
  • Language: to choose the interface language (English, German, Spanish, French, Italian, Portuguese, Chinese, Korean, Japanese).
  • Format: serves to format the internal memory or, if a memory card is present and is currently selected as in use, to format the memory card.
  • About: displays camera information such as the version number of the firmware.
Three versions of the instruction manual — English, French and Spanish — are bound into a single volume printed on recycled paper stock, and is included with the North American version of the CX7430.

Although quite simple, the manual covers the various functions of the camera, and provides a quick way of getting familiar with the CX7430.

Software

The Kodak CX7430 is retailed with a single disc containing a full copy of Kodak EasyShare. Three versions are provided: version 3.3 for Windows and Mac OS X, version 1.4.2 for Mac OS 8.6 and OS 9.X.

The software allows for the automatic downloading of images from the camera, or from the optional camera dock.

EasyShare can also serve to burn photo CDs; print photos at home or send them over the Internet to a printing service; e-mail images, which can include the creation of an e-mail list or importing addresses from the default e-mail program so selected addresses can be stored on the camera; or connect to Kodak's EasyShare Web site.

With EasyShare photos can be edited. With photos for editing selected, the program opens an editing window that can be used to remove red-eye, adjust brightness contrast and colour, or exposure; and allows cropping and rotation. When images are being adjusted for exposure, contrast or brightness, the image is divided into two, with the left side giving a "before" view, while the right side shows the effect of the editing.
