The interface of the DX7630 has some
improvements over previous Kodak cameras. With this camera, the
menu loops from the last option back to the first, avoiding having
to go through all the options to reach one at the bottom, or
to reach the access to the Setup menu.
The Setup menu is accessible as the last option of both the Recording and
Playback menus:
Return: returns to the previous menu, be it the capture menu
or the playback menu.
Quickview: On or Off. Displays a photo or video for 5 seconds
after it it captured.
Print Warning offers 3 settings: Continuous, Pause, and None.
None turns off the digital zoom. Pause inserts a pause at the transition
point between the optical and digital zoom indicating that beyond this
point the image quality may no longer produce an acceptable 4 x 6 inch
(10 x 15 cm) print. Continuous transits smoothly between optical and
digital zoom.
Sound Themes: selects the sounds produced by the DX7630. Shutter
Only, Default, Music, Sci-Fi, Fun.
Sound Volume: Off, Low (default), Medium, High.
Sets the volume of the sounds produced by the DX7630.
Date & Time Set: to set the date and time on
the camera.
Video Out: NTSC or PAL.
Orientation Sensor: On or Off. Rotates pictures
captured vertically upon playback.
Date Stamp: imprints the date on pictures.
Video Date Display: displays the time and date of
the recording during video playback.
Language: sets the interface language (English,
German, Spanish, French, Italian, Portuguese, Chinese, Korean,
Japanese).
Format: to format either the internal memory or
a memory card.
About: displays camera information such as the version
number of the firmware.
In North America, Kodak includes
a short printed manual in three languages, English, French and
Spanish.
Regrettably, the information presented in the manual is a bit superficial,
and does not fully explain some of the more advanced modes offered on the
DX7630. While this type of manual might be sufficient with a basic point
and shoot, a 6 megapixel camera with multiple shooting modes and the ability
to capture 64 second exposures deserves a bit better.
Software
The Kodak DX7630 is retailed with
a single disc containing Kodak EasyShare. Three versions are
provided: version 3.4 for Windows and version 3.3 for Mac OS
X 10.2.3 or higher.
The software allows for the automatic
downloading of images from the camera, or from the optional camera
dock.
EasyShare Software can also serve to burn photo CDs; print photos at home;
send photos over the Internet to a printing service; and e-mail photos,
either at their original size, or at a reduced size. Moreover the software
can be used to create an e-mail address list, or import addresses from
an e-mail program, and load them on the camera.
Easyshare Software can also be used
to see images as a slide show, presenting the images full-screen
on a black background, and with controls at the bottom of the
screen.
EasyShare also allows some photo editing. When
an image is selected, an editing window can be used to remove
red-eye, adjust brightness contrast and colour, or exposure;
and allows cropping and rotation. When images are being adjusted
for exposure, contrast or brightness, the image is divided into
two, with the left side giving a "before" view, while
the right side shows the effect of the editing. In addition some "fun
effects" are available, such as black and white; sepia;
colouring book (an outline effect); cartoon (a rather interesting
outline and watercolour effect).
