The
Setup menu of the Kyocera Finecam S3 is a traditional system, with the
options presented as a list, each accessed by the 4-direction control.
The Setup menu options are limited to simple selections except for 2 of
them: the autofocus selection and the Mode Lock.
The autofocus option offers the choice of having the camera constantly
adjust the focus, which while it sounds practical, has a serious impact
on the already short battery life.
The
Mode Lock ensures that once the Manual mode has been selected in the Recording
Menu (see Characteristics), the camera will remember its settings after
having been turned off.
Software
The Kyocera Finecam
S3 we tested was bundled with ArcSoft PhotoImpression (Windows
and Mac) an easy-to-use photo-editing program specifically designed
for general consumers. The program allows editing, retouching, and enhancing
of images. In addition PhotoImpression provides a variety of project
templates for creating greeting cards and calendars, and incorporates
the functions of other ArcSoft programs such as PhotoPrinter and PhotoFantasy.
QuickTime (Windows and Mac versions) is also included on the CD-ROM,
along with a driver for the USB card reader supplied with the camera.
