Here are a few images that accurately reflect the abilities
of any given camera model. The images are altered only in
terms of size and sharpness after reduction and by the JPEG
compression used. Unless otherwise mentioned, assume that
any marbling or artifacts visible in the images are due to
the compression required to display them here. We feel however,
that they still faithfully represent the results we experienced.
STILL LIFE
PHOTO
This scene was photographed indoors with a flash in a room
with subdued natural lighting.
This photo is taken with a Nikkor 18-55mm F/3.5-5.6 DX VR zoom lens at
its widest setting. Auto mode without image stabilization was used for
the shot. The picture is evenly exposed and the colors are very faithful
to how they appear to the human eye. When viewed at 100% in an image editor,
details were outstanding. Text on boxes, for example, were sharp throughout
the photo. Noise levels were barely discernable.

ZOOM STILL LIFE PHOTO
This shot tests the camera and zoom lens at
full telephoto on the still life scene under the same lighting and metering
conditions.
This image was beautifully exposed and its detail was excellent.
Ribbing in the camera's strap, for instance, was finely rendered. Viewing
the picture at 100% in a photo editing program revealed very little discernible
noise. Color fidelity was natural and accurately reflected the lighting
in the scene.
MACRO PHOTO
This is macro test shot. The test object is about 4.5 inches
wide by 3.5 inches high.
This shot was taken with the camera in macro mode and about six inches
from the subject. Viewed at 100% in a photo editor, detail was very good
and color excellent. Exposure was aptly calibrated. Noise was near non-existent.

BUILDING PHOTO
This is an outdoor test shot taken in Auto
mode. The house has lots of fine detail in the shingles and slate roof,
as well as the architectural design of the doorway.
Displaying the image at 100 percent in a photo editor showed
good color fidelity and exposure. Noise was minimal. Fine detail was soft.
Leave clusters and "ice breakers" on the roof lacked distinction.
Pumpkin on the steps had soft edges. However, roof lines were solid without
hint of jaggedness.
ZOOM BUILDING PHOTO
Without
moving from the spot that the building photo was taken, the image of the
entrance to the house was captured with the zoom extended to its maximum
focal length. The shot was nicely exposed and detail was very good. At
100% in a photo editor, leaves in the trees, as well as the patterns in
the lace curtains in the windows, were finely rendered, distinct and sharp.
Even the reflection of the trees in the house’s windows was impressively
captured. The camera did a fine job of dampening noise, especially in
trouble spots like the dark areas under the eaves. All lines were smoothly
reproduced.
