The
menu of the C-4000Z is extensive, reflecting the fact that the camera
offers a host of features. The full menu, accessed by the Mode Menu option
of the shortcut screens, is at its fullest when the camera is set to one
of its still image recording modes.
One
section of the menu, Setup, remains accessible to all modes (still image,
movie, and playback).
All
Reset: is set by default to be "Off". This option controls
what settings the camera will "remember" the next time the
camera is turned on.
Language:
decides the interface language for the C-4000Z.
PW
On Setup: Selects the picture that will be displayed when the
power is turned on. A photo captured by the user can be selected to
be shown every time the camera is turned on or off. By default, the
camera shows an animation of the Olympus logo.
PW
Off Setup: Selects the picture that will be displayed when the
power is turned off. Again, by default the C-4000Z displays the Olympus
logo.
Rec
View: is set by default to be "Off". This option controls
whether or not the screen will show the image while it is being saved.
Beep:
controls the camera's beeping noise. The options are: Off, Low and
High.
My
Mode Setup: starts by offering a selections of 4 different "My
Mode" settings, any of which can be configured for up to 32 specific
items.
File
Name: is to decide if the camera will continue incrementing the
number at each photo, or start afresh every time a memory card is
formatted.
Pixel
Mapping: lets the camera perform a self-diagnostic of its CCD
and its image processing circuitry. Olympus recommends the function
be used once a year.
Screen
Brightness: to adjust the screen as necessary.
Time
and Date: to set the internal clock of the C-4000Z.
Measurement
Unit: used for the Manual Focus mode, can be set to feet or metres.
Video
Out: decides whether the video out signal is NTSC or PAL.
Shortcut:
to assign any particular item from the menu to any of the 2 programmable
options of the recording mode's shortcut screen.
Custom
button: to assign a different function to the Custom button other
than of calling up the Virtual Dial. Possible settings are: AE Lock,
Drive, and ISO.
Software
In
North America the Olympus C-4000Z is supplied with a single CD-ROM containing
Olympus Camedia Master 4.0. In addition, the disc provides the
200-page plus camera manual in PDF format in English, French, German
or Spanish.
The manual is very detailed and well-explained, while the PDF file is
designed intelligently so any part of the volume can be accessed from
the table of contents.
Camedia
Master 4.0 is the "light" version of Olympus' Camedia Master
Pro. The program is designed to handle retrieving the images from the
camera or a disk on the computer, browsing, printing (photos or index
prints), editing images and creating panoramas. In addition, it can also
be used to create instant wallpapers (screen backgrounds), calendars,
postcards and albums.
