The interface of the C-60 is a
variation of those found on every other recent Olympus camera,
making it very easy for Olympus owners to upgrade to another
camera from the same manufacturer. A mix of text and icons
are used to identify the various functions and options, and
in the capture modes the menu is overlaid on the image coming
from the lens. Similarly, in playback the menu is overlaid
over the image currently on the display. (To improve legibility
the menu is shown here on a black background.)
As explained in the Characteristics section of the review,
the fourth of the four-part C-60 menu is the Setup menu:
All Reset: On or Off. Returns the camera to its
defaults. This option must be set to Off to prevent the
camera from defaulting back to HQ image quality every time
it is turned off.
Language: selects the interface language from
English, French, German, Spanish, Italian, Russian, Portuguese.
PW On/Off Setup: controls Power On and Off settings
for:
Monitor: On or Off.
Sound: Off, Low, High.
Rec View: On or Off. Shows a just captured photo
as it is being saved.
Beep: sets the volume for the camera warning tones
(Off, Low, High).
Shutter Sound: selects the sound and its volume
for the shutter release (sound 1 or 2, Low or High).
Sleep: selects the time at which the camera will
power down if there has been no activity (30 sec, 1, 2, 5
or 10 minutes).
My Mode Setup: allows registering the current configuration
to the My Mode Dial position, or resetting it, or customizing
each option.
File Name: Reset or Auto. The Auto setting increments
file numbers sequentially.
Pixel Mapping: the pixel mapping feature allows
the camera to check and adjust the CCD and the image processing
functions. Operating this function once a year is recommended.
LCD Monitor Brightness: to adjust the screen's brightness.
Date and Time: to set the date and time on the C-60.
Video Out: NTSC or PAL.
Shortcut: to assign different functions to two of
the recording mode Shortcut screens.
Thumbnails(Playback mode only): decides
whether the index display will show 4, 9 or 16 images per
screen.
As with their other cameras, Olympus
includes a printed Starter Manual in multiple languages,
and a Full Manual in PDF format (Adobe Acrobat). The PDF
manual covers all aspects of the C-60 and its operation. Explanations
are usually clear and easy to follow.
Software
Olympus provides Olympus Camedia
Master 4.2, with the C-60Z, and the same CD also contains QuickTime
6.4 to view the movies recorded with the camera; and Adobe
Acrobat Reader 5 to read the camera and software manuals.
Camedia Master is a multifunction suite of applications that provides for
image editing, printing, cataloguing images and creating panoramas. Camedia
master can also be used to create customized layouts so that more than
1 photo can be printed per page.
A Pro version of Camedia Master
can be enabled from the one supplied with the camera, but requires
obtaining a serial number from Olympus for a fee of $19.95 US.
The Pro version adds the capability of saving some of the more
specialized photo layouts possible with the program, including
calendars, postcards and the like.
