While the control the user has over the C-700UZ is quite extensive, it also makes for a more complex menu system. To simplify the accesses to the various functions, Olympus has used an ingenious "shortcut" system that turns out to be quite effective.

The Playback menu works in a similar way, providing a shortcut screen to the most commonly used functions, but these cannot be customized.
  • Slide Show: is at the top and automatically displays one image after the other;
  • Info: presents an overlay with the shooting data for each image;
  • Mode Menu: is composed of three areas:
    • Play: which will play back any sound associated with an image;
    • Card: allows the formatting of the SmartMedia card;
    • Mode Setup which presents some of the options of the main Mode Setup menu found in the Recording mode:
      • All Reset: on or off;
      • Beeps: turns on or off camera sounds;
      • LCD Brightness : increase or decrease;
      • Time/Date: to set the camera's internal clock and calendar;
      • Thumbnails: to decide if the camera will present 4, 9 or 16 thumbnails when the zoom lever is pressed towards wide angle in Playback.

Software

Olympus provides Camedia Master Version 2.5 (Windows and Macintosh) on the one CD-ROM included with the C-700. The disk contains the USB driver and also includes an extremely detailed user's manual in PDF format to complement the printed "Basic Manual" that comes in the camera's box. To read the full PDF version of the manual (200 pages), Adobe's Acrobat Reader is also included on the CD.

The manual is offered in English, French German and Spanish, and covers just about every aspect of this complex camera.

Camedia Master
is Olympus' own software. Not only can it allow a fair bit of correction and photo editing, it can stitch panoramic images together seamlessly and display precise information about the camera settings for each image.
