The
C-720UZ uses a single menu design, composed of different sections that
show more or less options depending on the recording mode of the camera.
The Setup works the same, accessible from all but the Auto mode, and presenting
options appropriate to the mode in use.
The Playback menu (shown at left) is typical of the system, presenting
only the Setup options appropriate to the Playback function, including
how many thumbnails to display on the screen.
In
the P/A/S/M modes, or with the Mode Dial set to My Mode,
the menu provides the most options, including the Setup section (shown
below) which offers:
All
Reset: a bit confusing, this function controls what settings will
be retained after the camera is turned off. By default the camera
returns to a medium (HQ) image quality unless this option is set to
'off' purposefully;
Info:
On/Off, decides whether or not the shooting data will be displayed
as an overlay in Playback;
Beeps:
Camera beeps, On or Off;
Rec
View: On/Off, shows a just captured image for a few seconds post
capture;
My
Mode Setup: current, reset, custom;
Sleep:
Sets the delay time before the camera automatically turns off (up
to 10 minutes);
File
Name: Auto or Reset;
Pixel
Mapping: To identify possibly defective pixels and omit them from
the image data;
LCD
Brightness: Increase or Decrease the backlight intensity;
Time/Date:
Sets the internal clock;
Battery
Save: On/Off, reduces power consumption;
Short
Cut settings: allows selecting what will appear for 3 of 4 short
cuts of the primary menu screen;
Custom
Button: assigns a new function to the AEL button (AE Lock, Info,
ISO, P/A/S/M, Digital Zoom, Resolution, White Balance).
Software
Olympus
provides Camedia Master with the C-720UZ. This is a new version
of Camedia Master, and one that is substantially improved from earlier
ones.
The program provides a graphical front end that lets the user get images
from the camera, or the computer, which are then displayed as thumbnails
in a browser (screen capture below).
The browser portion
of the program serves to find the shooting data for any given image,
rotate their orientation, edit an image, open files, print photos and
create special effects.
The Edit function opens up another window to work on the image, and
loads it. Photos can then be adjusted for a variety of things, ranging
from cropping and resizing to the addition of superimposed templates
and text.
Moreover,
filters can be used to adjust brightness and contrast, gamma, colour balance,
hue and saturation, sharpness or blur.
Other tools include
automatic red-eye reduction, and changing the image's tone to sepia or
black and white.
The same CD-ROM also includes Apple's QuickTime to view the movie clips
recorded with the camera; and complete camera manuals in PDF version in
different languages (English, French, German and Spanish).
