One
of the least expensive cameras in the Olympus line, the Camedia Brio
D-230 (C-2 in Europe) offers a 2-megapixel resolution, a 36mm
equivalent lens and a sleek look.
The D-230 is a simple point and shoot no priority modes or manual
mode but one that provides useful photographic settings which are
accessed via the menu.
As
with a number of other Olympus compact cameras, the D-230 is turned on
by sliding back its gold colour lens barrier.
This system simultaneously prevents the card compartment from being opened
when the camera is in use, and blocks off the flash and the viewfinder
when the camera is turned off.
1.5 inch LCD screen.
The 4 direction control serves to navigate the camera menus, and the right
and left arrows double as a shortcut to the flash modes and the macro
mode when the camera is recording. The up and down arrows activate the
digital zoom.
The two other buttons are used to turn on the LCD screen preview, and
call up the menu. Playback of recorded images on the LCD screen is accessed
by the screen button, but requires the lens barrier to be slid back over
the lens, at least partially, to turn off the capture mode.
The Olympus
Brio D-230 is attractive and well-thought out. As an entry-level camera
it provides all of the most important basic controls, which allows it
to capture images in a reasonably wide range of conditions.
