Our Opinion
The Cyber-shot DSC-W120 does a good job of properly exposing shots and maintaining the color fidelity of a scene. Its autofocusing system and image stabilization technologies work well to keep images in focus. Depending on lighting conditions, the sharpness of images may suffer and even in some well-lit shots, detail can soften at the boundaries of scenes.
Aperture: F/7.1 Shutter Speed: 1/250 ISO: 400
In all its modes, both manual and automatic, the W120, on most occasions, will aptly capture the colors in a shot. Colorization can also be altered through color modes like normal, vivid (photo below), antique and black and white.
Aperture: F/7.1 Shutter Speed: 1/640 ISO: 125

The W120 has a a 4x optical zoom, which is standard fare for a DSC in this category. At the wide end of the zoom (photo below left), the lens is the equivalent to 32mm in the 35mm world and at the telephoto end (photo below right) its equivalent is 128mm.

Aperture: F/7.1 Shutter Speed: 1/320 ISO: 125
Aperture: F/5.8 Shutter Speed: 1/800 ISO: 125
Face detection is becoming de rigueur throughout the digital camera universe. With its mug recognition technology, the W120 can recognize up to eight human faces and adjust the camera's settings to accommodate them.
Aperture: F/3.2 Shutter Speed: 1/50 ISO: 250
Flash snaps captured with the W120 on most occasions were evenly exposed and avoided "washout syndrome." However, flash photos tended to contain more noise than pictures snagged under natural lighting conditions.
Aperture: F/2.8 Shutter Speed: 1/40 ISO: 400
Aperture: F/4 Shutter Speed: 1/64 ISO: 200
An appealing feature of this Cyber-shot model is its flash bracking capabilities. It will take one photo at a standard exposure (photo top left), one with less flash light (photo middle left) and one with more light (photo bottom left).
Aperture: F/4 Shutter Speed: 1/64 ISO: 200
Aperture: F/4 Shutter Speed: 1/64 ISO: 200

Light sensitivity for the W120 ranges from ISO 100 to 3200. While higher settings can be used to reduce shutter speeds and suppress the flash in low lighting conditions, the trade-off is increased grain, noise and color aberration, as can be seen when a scene shot at ISO 100 (top row photos below) is compared to the same frame captured at ISO 3200 (bottom row).

Aperture: F/2.8 Shutter Speed: 1/60 ISO: 100
Aperture: F/7.1 Shutter Speed: 1/320 ISO: 3200

With its macro mode, the W120 can get very close to subjects and render them with sharp detail and vibrant color.

Aperture: F/7.1 Shutter Speed: 1/250 ISO: 125
Although targeted at the point-and-shoot market, the W120 has features that give shutterbugs the kind of flexibility that permits them to take on challenging photographic situations and achieve decent results.
